What we have learned building websites for local retailers
Most local stores do not need an online shop; they need a website that gets people through the door. The searches that matter are 'is it open', 'where is it', 'do they have X' and 'where do I park', and they happen on a phone from the car or the footpath. We build retail sites so those answers are on the first screen, the Google Business Profile carries the same hours and address, and the map pack shows you for 'bike shop near me' or 'florist Preston' when it counts.
A product showcase without a checkout is often the right middle ground. Shoppers want to see the brands you stock, the ranges and what is new before they visit, and a simple browsable catalogue does that without the cost and admin of running a full online store. When a store is ready to sell online we add WooCommerce, but we do not push it on stores whose customers want to touch the product first.
