What AI SEO is

Your customers are asking an AI before they search Google

AI SEO (you will also see it called generative engine optimisation or AI search optimisation) is making your business the one an AI recommends. These systems do not rank ten links. They read a handful of trusted pages, work out which businesses fit the question and name two or three. To be named, your business has to be easy to find, easy to understand and easy to trust.

Easy to find

The AI crawlers have to be able to reach your pages. Many hosts, firewalls and security plugins block them by default, and a blocked site is simply never considered.

Easy to understand

Your services, suburbs, prices and proof stated plainly, in text, with structured data that says the same thing. An AI cannot recommend what it cannot read.

Easy to trust

Consistent details across your website, Google Business Profile, directories and reviews. AI systems cross-check, and a business that agrees with itself everywhere gets named first.

The good news for small businesses is that Google has said there are no special files, tags or tricks required to appear in AI Overviews. What works is the same solid foundation we build into every site, applied more deliberately. Most of your competitors have not started, and early movers in a suburb or trade get named first and keep getting named.

The reality

Where AI answers actually come from

When someone asks an AI for "the best plumber in Preston", it does not judge your website on its own. It runs a few searches, reads the pages that come back and repeats the businesses those pages name most often. Your site is one voice in that room. The others are louder.

"Best of" lists and directories

The pages AI engines quote most are round-ups and directories: "top 10 plumbers in Melbourne", Hipages, Oneflare, Yellow Pages, True Local, Clutch and the industry bodies for your trade. If you are not on the lists, you are not in the answer.

Bing, not just Google

ChatGPT's search runs on Bing, and most small business sites are thinly indexed there. We register your site in Bing Webmaster Tools, turn on IndexNow and make sure your Bing Places listing matches your Google profile.

Reviews that name the service and suburb

AI engines read review text. Twenty reviews that say "great plumber in Preston" do more than two hundred that say "great service". We set up the ask so customers mention what you did and where.

The same details everywhere

Name, address, phone, services and hours identical on Google, Bing, Apple Maps, Facebook, LinkedIn and the directories. AI engines trust a business more when every source agrees, and skip one when they conflict.

A few real mentions

A case study in local business press, a guest article for a client's industry body, a supplier's partner page. A handful of real links from relevant sites beats thousands of spammy ones, and they are the links AI engines follow.

Your website, saying the same thing

Your site still matters: it has to be reachable, fast, in plain text and say the same things as everywhere else. That is why the setup covers both the site and everything around it.

What you get

Fixed price, no surprises

One setup fee to make your site answer-ready, and an optional monthly plan to keep it moving. Both prices are ex GST, and the monthly has no lock-in.

Larger sites, multi-location businesses and eCommerce stores are quoted separately. Ask for a custom proposal.

How it works

Four steps, live in about three weeks

Free AI visibility check

Tell us your services and suburbs. We ask the AI engines the questions your customers ask and send you a short report: who gets named, where you appear and the three biggest gaps. No obligation.

Days 1–3

Fix the foundations

Crawler access, speed, structured data and profile consistency. Most of this is invisible to visitors and is where most sites are quietly failing.

Week 1

Make your pages answer-ready

We rewrite your key pages with direct answers, FAQs and the specifics an AI needs to recommend you: suburbs, prices, turnaround, credentials, reviews.

Weeks 2–3

Re-check and report

We run the same questions again and show you the before and after, then agree what to do next, which is often nothing more than the quarterly refresh.

Week 8
What we do for you

Six things, done properly

AI visibility check

We ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode the questions your customers ask, record who gets named and why, and show you where you stand against the competitors they recommend instead.

Crawler access and technical fixes

We make sure Googlebot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot and the rest can reach your pages, that robots.txt is not blocking them, that key content is real text and that the site loads fast enough for them to read it. We also register your site in Bing Webmaster Tools and switch on IndexNow, because ChatGPT's search runs on Bing.

Answer-ready page content

We rewrite your key service and location pages so each one answers what an AI gets asked: what you do, where, for whom, what it costs and why you. Clear headings, short direct answers, an FAQ on every page and a plain, factual About paragraph that says who you are, where you are, what you do and who for, because AI engines quote paragraphs like that word for word.

Structured data that matches the page

LocalBusiness or Service, Offer, FAQPage and BreadcrumbList schema, written to say exactly what the visible page says, so Google and the AI systems can read your business like a form rather than guess.

Profiles, directories and reviews

The same name, address, phone, services and hours on Google, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect and the directories AI engines lean on. We submit you to the lists and directories that come up for your service, and set up a review ask that gets customers naming the service and suburb.

Re-check and report

Six weeks after the work goes live we run the same questions again and send a before-and-after report showing where you are now named, what moved and what to do next.

Everything is done by our Melbourne team on your existing WordPress site. No new platform, no subscription software and you keep everything we write.

Straight answers

What we don't do

Worth saying plainly, because plenty of AI SEO offers rely on you not asking.

We don't guarantee a mention

AI answers change from question to question and day to day. Anyone promising you a place in ChatGPT for a fixed fee is guessing. We measure before and after and show you the change.

We don't sell AI tricks

No hidden text, no "AI tags", no special files. Google has said none of that is needed, and the systems that matter reward the same things good SEO always has.

We don't lock you in

The setup is a one-off and the monthly is month to month. If it isn't earning its keep, you stop and the work stays on your site.

Questions

AI SEO, answered

What is AI SEO?

AI SEO is the work of making your business easy for AI systems to find, understand and recommend. That includes Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, and chat assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Copilot. It builds on normal SEO: clear content, structured data, fast crawlable pages and consistent business details across the web.

Is AI SEO different from normal SEO?

It is an extension of it, not a replacement. Google has said there are no special requirements to appear in AI Overviews beyond being indexed and eligible for a snippet. The difference is emphasis: AI systems favour pages that answer specific questions directly, state facts plainly and agree with what the rest of the web says about you. Good SEO already helps; AI SEO makes sure nothing is missing.

Can you guarantee my business will show up in ChatGPT?

No, and anyone who does is guessing. AI answers change from question to question and day to day. What we can do is remove every reason an AI has to skip you, measure where you appear before and after, and show you the change.

How do you measure results?

We build a list of the real questions your customers ask, run them through the major AI engines before we start and again six weeks after the work goes live, and record every time your business is named, linked or quoted. You get both reports. Google Search Console also counts clicks from AI Overviews under normal web traffic, so you will see any lift there too.

Do I need a new website for this?

Usually not. Most of the work is done on your existing WordPress site: content, structured data, speed and crawler access. If your site cannot be made fast or crawlable without a rebuild, we will tell you before you spend anything.

Why do directories and reviews matter if this is about AI?

Because the AI engines read them before they read you. When ChatGPT or Gemini answers a local question, it searches, reads the top results (mostly round-up lists, directories and review sites) and repeats the businesses they name. Getting you onto those pages, with consistent details and reviews that mention your service and suburb, is most of the work.

Does this help my Google rankings too?

Yes. Everything we do for AI visibility, from clearer answers to consistent business details to better structured data, is also what Google rewards in ordinary search results and the map pack. Most clients see both improve together.

Should I block AI crawlers from my site?

Not if you want to be recommended. Blocking GPTBot or ClaudeBot in robots.txt keeps your content out of the answers your customers read. We check your robots.txt and hosting firewall as part of the setup, because some hosts and security plugins block these crawlers by default.

How long until I see results?

Technical fixes are picked up within days. Content changes typically start showing in AI answers within four to eight weeks, which is why the re-check is at week eight. Profile and review signals build over months, so the quarterly refresh keeps the momentum going.
