A specialist practice website that serves patients and referring GPs
Victorian Orthopaedic Spine Service (VOSS) is the practice of Dr David Edis, an orthopaedic and spine surgeon consulting across south-east Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula and Gippsland. We redesigned the site to feel as considered as the care it describes: a calm navy and blue palette, plain-language condition guides and separate paths for patients requesting a consultation and GPs referring one.
The challenge
The existing site was dated and did not reflect a fellowship-trained surgeon with 20 years’ experience. The goals were to:
- Give the practice a premium, modern look that still reads as medical and trustworthy
- Explain 17 spinal and several orthopaedic conditions in language patients understand
- Describe treatments from laminectomy to robotic and minimally invasive surgery
- Make it easy for GPs to refer, with a downloadable referral guide and a form that accepts referral letters
- List six consulting locations with the same reception hours and contact details on every page
- Introduce the team, including the practice's current fellow
- Rank for spine surgeon searches in Melbourne
Project features
We rebuilt the site on WordPress, Elementor Pro and GeneratePress with a two-tier header: a navy utility bar carrying Request a consultation and Refer a patient above the logo and menu, so both audiences see their next step on every page. Page heroes place the text in a panel on the left with the image on the right, section spacing and card styling were brought up to a premium standard and the old cyan was replaced with a navy and blue palette with softly rounded buttons.
Conditions are split into spine and orthopaedic menus, ordered by how often patients search for them, and each guide links to the matching treatment page. A Refer a Patient page carries a Gravity Form with file upload for referral letters, and a global contact-and-disclaimer block keeps rooms details, hours and emergency wording consistent across 30+ pages. Full on-page SEO, Rank Math schema and a homepage H1 targeting spine surgeon Melbourne completed the build, with GA4 set up for the practice.

Results
Patients arrive at a site that explains their condition before they walk into the rooms, and GPs can refer in a minute without a fax machine. The practice now presents online the way it presents in person, with one consistent set of contact details and hours wherever a visitor lands.
