What Does a Website Cost in Melbourne?
Most Melbourne web design agencies won’t tell you. You fill in a form, wait for a call, sit through a discovery meeting, and three weeks later a number arrives. We think that’s a waste of your time and ours.
Here’s what web design actually costs in Melbourne:
$1,699 – $2,500 — single page and small business sites. Right for sole traders, trades and service businesses who need a professional presence and a steady flow of enquiries. Usually 1–3 weeks.
$2,500 – $5,000 — multi-page business sites and small online stores. Right for established businesses with several services, multiple locations, or a product range to sell. Usually 3–7 weeks.
$5,000 – $15,000 — custom builds with integrations. Booking systems, quote calculators, CRM and inventory connections, membership areas. Usually 6–12 weeks.
$15,000+ — enterprise and heavily custom platforms. Custom application development, complex multi-site structures, and design driven by a formal research and strategy phase.
Where the money actually goes. Roughly half of any website budget is design and build time. The rest is content — copywriting, photography, product data entry — and the technical work most people never see: page speed, mobile layouts, form logic, SEO structure and testing. Agencies that quote low usually cut the last part, which is exactly the part that decides whether the site earns anything.
What to watch for. Ask three questions before you sign: Do I own the website and the domain? What happens if I want to leave? Is this a fixed price or an estimate? If any answer is vague, keep looking.
Our prices are fixed and published below. Choose your package, add what you need, and see your total in under 30 seconds — no call required.

Web Design Melbourne – Frequently Asked Questions
Browse our FAQs below or contact our team if you need more information.
How much does a website cost in Melbourne?
Our website packages start from $1,699 plus GST for a landing page, $2,490 for a small business website, $3,490 for a Business Pro website and $4,990 for an eCommerce website. Your final quote will depend on the number of pages, required functionality and complexity of the project. You can see the full breakdown on our web design packages and pricing page.
How long does it take to design and build a website?
Most business websites take approximately four weeks to complete—around one week for design and three weeks for development. Larger websites and eCommerce stores may take longer depending on their size, functionality, content and revision requirements.
Will my website work on mobile devices?
Yes. Every website we build is fully responsive and designed to work properly across mobile phones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers.
Do you build WordPress websites?
Yes. We specialise in custom WordPress website design because WordPress is flexible, scalable and easy for business owners to manage. For online stores we generally use WooCommerce — see our custom eCommerce web design page for what that involves.
Can you redesign my existing website?
Yes. We can redesign an outdated or underperforming website with a cleaner layout, improved mobile usability, faster performance and a stronger focus on generating enquiries or sales. We can also preserve important content and URLs to help protect your existing SEO. More detail on our website redesign services page.
Will my new website be SEO-friendly?
Yes. Every website is built with an SEO-friendly structure, responsive design, fast-loading foundations, clean navigation and search-friendly content areas. Ongoing SEO campaigns, content writing and link building are separate services.
Will I own my website after it is completed?
Yes. You retain full ownership of your website, content, domain and hosting account. You are free to edit the website, change hosting providers or work with another developer whenever you choose.
Do I need to be located in Melbourne to work with you?
No. VisualWeb is based in Melbourne, but we work with businesses throughout Australia. Projects can be managed by phone, email and video meetings, so you do not need to visit our office.
How do payments work?
A 50% deposit is required before work begins, with the remaining 50% payable when the website is completed and ready to launch. Any additional work outside the agreed scope will be discussed and approved before proceeding.
Do you provide hosting and ongoing website support?
Yes. We offer Australian web hosting, managed WordPress hosting and ongoing WordPress maintenance plans. Hosting is optional, and there are no lock-in contracts. You can choose to host with VisualWeb or use another provider.
What's the difference between a $1,699 website and a $5,000 website?
Scope, mostly. A $1,699 single page website gives you one well-designed page with your services, contact details and an enquiry form — enough to look professional and start generating calls. At $5,000 you are paying for more pages, so each service and location gets its own page that Google can rank separately, plus custom features like booking forms, quote calculators or CRM connections. The design quality does not change between the two. How much of your business the website can carry does.
Do you design from scratch or use templates?
Every website is custom-designed for your business. We build on WordPress because it is stable, well supported and easy for you to manage yourself — but the layout, structure and design are built around your services and your customers, not bought as a theme and recoloured.
Do you write the content for my website?
Yes. Copywriting is included in every package, along with stock imagery where you need it. We will ask you about your services, your customers and how you win work, then write the website from that. If you would rather supply your own copy you are welcome to, and we will structure it properly for search and readability.
What do I need to provide to get started?
Your logo if you have one, a rough idea of your services, and any photos you would like us to use. That is genuinely it. If you do not have a logo we can quote one separately, and if you do not have photography we will use stock imagery until you do.
How do I know whether I need a new website or just a refresh?
If the structure is sound and it is only the look that is dated, a refresh is usually the cheaper option. If the site is slow, hard to update, not working properly on phones, or built on a platform you cannot move away from, rebuilding is almost always better value than patching. Send us the address and we will tell you which one you actually need.
Which Melbourne suburbs do you work in?
We are based in Mernda and work with businesses right across Melbourne. We have dedicated pages for Epping, Whittlesea, Thomastown, Bundoora, Reservoir, Preston, Coburg and Mernda. You do not need to be nearby — most projects run over phone, email and video.
